Sean O’Malley increased his status within the Bantamweight division with his spectacular knockout of Eddie Wineland during the UFC 250 preliminary card. ‘Sugar’ claimed that his finish was the highlight of the entire event but Cody Garbrandt disagrees. The former champion believes that his second-round stoppage over Rafael Assuncao was the main draw.
Either way, both fighters received an additional $50,000 for their efforts and have now increased their positions within the UFC’s ranking system. The future looks bright for O’Malley, who’s exciting fighting style and social media presence has seen him amass a growing loyal fan base.
Sean’s incredible performance attracted the attention of former two-division champion, Henry Cejudo; who addressed him directly in a Twitter post following UFC 250.
O’Malley appeared surprised by the unprovoked attack from ‘Triple C’ but revealed to TMZ Sports, that he would happily welcome the ‘little dude’ to the sugar show.
“Ah, Henry. I must have touched his buttons or something for that little dude to go off. I can’t imagine him f***ing walking around his house all mad. You know, he’s had a f***ing legendary career. You’d think with that career you’d be able to get a little bigger of a draw but some people just aren’t a draw.”
A fight with a decorated athlete like Cejudo would be a huge jump in competition for O’Malley but he made it clear that he’d happily accept the bout if it ever came around.
“Yeah absolutely. I think, you know, I’ve gotta keep building my career too. I’m not where I need to be yet but give me a few more sweet knockouts like that and I’m gonna be a worldwide superstar.”
‘Sugar’ Sean knows his potential and has plans to become one of the greatest of all time.
“I’m gonna be a celebrity. Not just a UFC fighter. I’m gonna be up there and I’m gonna get those huge pay-per-view buys someday, But I’ve gotta keep winning.”
Do you think that Sean O’Malley would stand a chance against former two-division UFC champion, Henry Cejudo?
